The Ashcombe School Spring Concert on 1st April is always a herald of longer evenings and warmer days.  This year's had an amazingly varied line up, showcasing the range, depth and musicality of talent in the school. From the Ashcombe Rock Band, to the Little Big Band with their Duke Ellington medley, The Ashcombe Brass Ensemble, Year 11 Band and Junior and Senior Orchestras, instrumental work lead the way.  Interwoven with Community Choir, Male Voice Choir, Senior Singers, and a glorious Massed Choir, the concert was a glorious lead into the Easter break.  Year 13 Biology - Our Upper Sixth biologists have been working on Cloning and have been nurturing their cauliflower samples in recent weeks.

  • Tissue culture is a process in which very small pieces of plants (‘tissue’) are grown (‘cultured’) using nutrient media

  • Because they are initially grown in petri dishes on nutrient agar we say they are grown ‘in vitro’ – outside a living organism

  • Clones are genetically identical individuals

 

 

Sportshall Athletics success. Having done well for their respective athletic clubs in the Surrey Sportshall competitions over the 2024/25 season, Will, Harry, Euan, Callum and Noah in Year 10 were selected to represent Surrey Athletics at the u15 Sportshall southeast regional finals in February, which they went onto win. They are in the Surrey squad which is heading to the U15 National final on April 12th to compete in a variety of events. Standing long and triple jump, speed bounce, shot, 2 lap and 4 lap races, paarlauf and relays. Great achievement and good luck!

 

The end of Spring Term saw some creative clay work by Year 9, making Henry Moore inspired human body shape sculptures.
