Uganda 2016

Uganda 2016On Thursday 14th July, seventeen students, Mr Blackband, Miss Mulligan and Miss Saunders, travelled to Uganda to support the charity Build Africa.

Our trip began with an incredible safari where we spotted lions, elephants and many giraffes! We enjoyed a boat trip to the Murchison Falls, seeing many hippos along the way, and, despite the heat, we took a walk up to the top of the Falls where we were rewarded with amazing views.

We spent the next five days at primary schools in the Buliisa district. We were all excited by the traditional African song and dance that welcomed us into each school and enjoyed showing the Uganda children some of the songs from our own childhood. We heard about each school’s unique successes and challenges and we soon learnt how the money we raised for Build Africa would make such a huge difference to each school’s development. We had a real Ugandan school experience as we observed lessons and played Ugandan playground games, but we couldn’t keep up with the children when we played football in the sweltering heat! We were very grateful to the parents who kindly made us lunch on several occasions.

Our last days were spent exploring Kampala on a city walking tour through many busy markets and at the Wildlife Centre in Entebbe, before the long flight home.
