Year 10-11 Italian Exchange Visits

Exchange with Ostuni

IstitutoWe have a link with l'Istituto Tecnico Commerciale Turistico "Jean Monnet" in Ostuni, a delightful hill top town in Puglia in the "heel of Italy's boot"  There have been previous visits to the school and now we have planned a cultural and linghuistic exchange for October 2009.  Nine Ashcombe pupils from Years 9 and 10, who are studying Italian, will stay with families and  experience home-school life. There will be exursions in the local area to  Alberobella, Lecce and the Adriatic coast.  Our Italian partners visited in March 2010.

2010 visit to Puglia

Twelve students from years 10 and 11, accompanied by Mrs Bloss and Mrs Clarke, visited Puglia as part a first exchange programme with the Instituto Jean Monnet in Ostuni. The trip provided an opportunity for our linguists to experience school and home life in the hill-top town with cultural visits to Lecce, Alberobello and the Castellana Grotte. Bad weather prevented exploration of a coastal park and a local archaeological site.

Some quotes from students:

"I don’t want to go home.. I loved the Trulli houses and the Castellana caves."

"School is so different. Lessons start at 8am; there are no displays in the corridors, no projectors – just blackboards."

"I’d definitely recommend the trip to Ashcombe pupils who want to learn Italian."

"My Italian family is so generous. They are very friendly and welcoming."
