Year 9-10 German Exchange Visits

2016 in Germany

Recent exchange 2017 - Ashcombe pupils in Germany

This year’s German exchange trip was a great success.

Eleven pupils from Years 9 and 10, accompanied by Mrs Holloway and Miss Mayne, visited Troisdorf near Cologne as part of an exchange programme with the Heinrich Böll Gymnasium. The trip offered pupils the opportunity to develop their language skills, experience rich German culture first hand and get a taste of delicious German food! The pupils thoroughly enjoyed staying with their friendly exchange hosts and the trip provided a worthwhile opportunity for our linguists to experience school and home life.

Visits this year included: a trip to the Beethoven Haus in Bonn, a guided tour through the Rhein Energie Stadion (home to the local football team, 1.FC Köln), an afternoon of delicious chocolate tasting at the Schokoladenmuseum, getting to grips with some heights during an indoor climbing activity, as well as a guided walk to the key monuments (such as Cologne Cathedral) in the city centre. One of the most popular visits this year, however, was Phantasialand theme park, where pupils were able to spend a whole day together with their exchange partners.

It was a pleasure to spend such a wonderful week with the pupils. They have made some fantastic friendships with their exchange partners and we are already looking forward to next year's exchange!
