Joint Statement from The Ashcombe, Therfield and The Warwick Schools - 10th January 2017

Therfield School, The Ashcombe School and The Warwick School have formed, and are part of, South East Surrey Schools Education Trust (SESSET), a charitable company limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales with company number 10479401. The registered address is The Ashcombe School, Ashcombe Road, Dorking Surrey, RH4 1LY.

Joint Statement from The Ashcombe, Therfield and The Warwick Schools - 27th September 2016

The Governing Bodies of The Ashcombe School, Dorking, Therfield School, Leatherhead and The Warwick School, Redhill, are delighted to announce that the Department for Education has issued an academy order enabling the three schools to proceed towards conversion to academy status, forming the South East Surrey Schools Education Trust. It is planned that this conversion will be completed on 1 January 2017.

It is our intention that parents and young people will see only the benefits of collaborative partnership with minimal impact on the day to day life of our communities. The name of the schools, their uniforms, school days, headteachers and staff will remain as they are, as will our relationships with all those other schools, colleges and other organisations with whom we have collaborated so positively in the past. The key changes for the schools are largely of a legal and governance nature (for details see below).

As part of the statutory process, the schools are now undertaking a period of formal consultation beginning on 27th September 2016 and ending on 4th November 2016. Details of the process and formal information may be found on the website of each school.

We view the formation of our trust as an exciting opportunity to further improve the life chances of our young people and to support one another in a wider variety of ways. Our fierce pride in the unique, individual ethos of each of our schools and our commitment to common values rooted in inclusivity and collaborative partnership will be enhanced and strengthened through the formality of this powerful partnership.

The schools entered into informal consultation last term with parents, staff and other interested parties at an early stage to ensure the full involvement of their communities. The feedback was that people understood the wider political situation and were pleased that the schools were being pro-active in forming a partnership which enabled the three schools to work together whilst maintaining their own identity and ethos.

Formal information

The Trust will be called South East Surrey Schools Education Trust (SESSET). The key changes for the schools are of a legal nature, and are that they will become a part of a Trust which is a Charitable Company limited by guarantee and funded directly by the Department for Education. The Trust will become the sole employer of its staff and landholder of the school sites and buildings. Further information regarding Multi-Academy Trusts is available on the DfE website.
